Bush Camp

Our Bush Camp is a rustic getaway, further from the madding crowd in the heart of the bush where you are even closer to the sights and sounds of nature.  Nearby is a dam frequently visited by the Cape buffalo and all the plains game on the farm. Marlboro storks and other birdlife are seen frequently at the dam too.

There are 5 Gemsbok tents, simply furnished each with 2 beds and a side table. They are made up of linen and duvets. 

Self-catering facilities include 

  • a big braai pit, grid area, and tripod to hang pots and kettle over the fire;
  • kitchen fully stocked with utensils and a 2 plate gas cooker and 2 fridges with a small deep freeze section.
  • Wood is supplied for the duration of your stay. If you require extra, please ask our staff and it will be arranged at an additional cost.
  • There are 2 ablution facilities with shower, toilet and basin. The geyser is a form of donkey boiler, called a Rocket. You need to make your own fire for the Rocket, a decent fire will heat the water up in 15 minutes.
  • The water is drinkable, it comes from our trusted borehole.

While taking a shower, you have the opportunity to view game at the small watering trough, encourages the animals to drink close by including the herd of Buffalo, who cruise by inquisitively. But don’t fear, there is an electric fence for guest’s protection. For your safety from leopard and buffalo, walking around the bush is not permitted, and driving on the trails too, unless one of our trackers accompanies you.

The rest of the camp is solar and gas energized. An electric point is available nearby for those campers with electric gadgets. Lighting is provided in the form of Solar Consol jars and the moon of course!

Bring your own:

  • Torches, extra blankets, fire lighters and matches, toiletries.
 

Please refrain from playing loud music.

Only high axle vehicles can access the camp. It is a dirt road, with some steeper sections and humps. A 4×4 vehicle is not necessary.

Shayamoya Tiger Fishing and Game Lodge

Relax on your private deck overlooking Lake Jozini and the Lebombo Mountains and observe the curious behaviour of the scarlet-breasted sunbird. The chalets have either King size beds or twin beds and each sleep 2 guests.

The Bundu Pot Restaurant

Indulge in sumptuous South African cuisine at The Bundu Pot. Whether it is à la carte, traditional braais under the stars, or a lavish buffet, the warm atmosphere welcomes new friendships. A fully licensed bar compliments the experience with a carefully curated wine menu.

Game Drives

An open Landcruiser comfortably seating 10 people is used for these events. The morning game drive departs between 6am and 7am seasonally. The afternoon game drive departs between 3pm and 4pm. The drives are 3hrs of fantastic bush experience where our rangers enlighten you on all aspects of
nature.

Game drives take place on the Phongolo Nature Reserve, the neighboring National Reserve, which is the first Reserve to be proclaimed in Africa by Paul Kruger in 1894. You will have the opportunity to view an excellent population of wildlife from white rhino, elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, warthog, and giraffe to a wide variety of antelope.

Boat Cruises

The boat cruise takes place up the Pongola River and into the Lake. The boat is flat bottomed with 10 seats and has a canvas cover overhead. The boat cruise is wonderful for bird watching, sighting of hippo, crocodile and where a multitude game can be seen at the water’s edge making an interesting perspective.

The morning cruise departs at 7am and returns at 10.00am. The afternoon cruise is particularly popular and departs at around 3pm and returns at 6pm.
