Hunters are to Sign an Indemnity Form
And Agree to Abide by Shayamoya Reserve Rules as Follows
- It will be required that you sight your rifle / bow before and hunting commences. (compulsory practical examination will be required or can be asked for)
- Hunters must produce their identity document and hunting license before any hunting may take place.
- A Game Tracker will be seconded to you, he will not be replaced unless he becomes ill or something unforeseen happens. In this case you will be provided with another Tracker. No hunting will be allowed, unless the hunter is accompanied by a Tracker. Note: It is your hunt and you may choose (and therefore pay for) if you would like to have one or more Trackes accompany you. You need to decide and advise Lindy accordingly.
- Your Tracker’s duty is to show where vehicles may drive and where you may hunt, as well as to point out wounded animals. He will assist with the recovery of the animals and slaughtering. Neither the Shayamoya Game Ranch nor Pongola Bow Safaris takes any responsibility for the quality of this work. (You are allowed to bring your own skinner to assist especially for trophy preparation of taxidermy). The Game Tracker is not a personal assistant or a gun bearer and is not responsible for judging horn length or identifying species and/or sex. This remains the hunter's responsibility.
- Measuring of horns: The Roland Ward method will be the only applicable measuring method. Any length over our listed specified minimum will be considered to be a trophy.
- If the Game Tracker determines that an animal is wounded, as a result of the presence of blood or other sign, it must be accepted as such, and everything possible must be done by the hunter to find the animal. If help is needed to find a wounded animal the Tracker may contact the Manager and ask for assistance.
- You may also shoot previously wounded animals once you have confirmed with the Tracker that the animal is indeed wounded and he has given permission that it may be shot.
- Missed shots will cost you R175.00 per shot. This penalty will not apply if the same animal that was missed is killed with the next or subsequent shot. Should there be 2 missed shots following each other, the hunter will be required to re-sight his rifle before being allowed to continue hunting.
- Game Guards are not to be bribed and any action which can be seen as an attempt at bribing a guard will result in possible disciplinary action. Likewise, any attempt by a guard at soliciting a bribe must be brought to the Owner’s attention.
- If you wound an animal and it cannot be found during the period of your stay, it will be considered as hunted.
- Buffalo and Leopard are present on the reserve. Please be aware of this and exercise extreme care when hunting. Should an animal be accidentally killed, please report this immediately to the Manager. The cost will be to the discretion of the Manager and will also be seen as unlisted species.
- Hunters are not allowed to indiscriminately shoot at animals or birds occurring on the property. This includes jackal, monkeys, etc. Furthermore, no plants may be collected or removed from their natural habitat.
- Any specie that is not listed for hunting will be charged as per the Manager’s discretion. The carcass will also be forfeited and a charge of illegal hunting may be investigated.
- Please note that, the onus is on you to ensure that the skinners receive the correct instructions regarding your carcasses.
- Hunters are required to supply their own salt or it may be added to your account on request.
- Vehicles must stay on the road and tracks, except when loading hunted game.
- Driving of vehicles for purposes other than hunting, or at night, within the reserve or elsewhere, is prohibited, unless you have received specific permission from the Manager, and you must be accompanied by a Game Guard.
- Under no circumstances may any shooting take place from or within 200m of a vehicle or in a 350m radius from a watering hole or feeding site.
- You are responsible for the safety of any non-hunters in your party.
- Weapon safety is important. No loaded firearms may be transported in or on vehicles or be brought into built-up areas; your guide has strict instructions in this regard. Remember there may be other people in the veld, so please look before you shoot. No firearms may be discharged, under any circumstances, within the lodge site area or near the other accommodation. No firearms may be left lying around.
- Only firearms with a caliber .243 and larger may be used for the hunting of animals up to impala size, and animals larger than impala, with a caliber larger than a .270.
- The discarding of litter, of any sort, is illegal. Please remove all litter from the reserve.
- Please note: Cigarette butts are considered as litter and under no circumstances may they be discarded in anything other than an ashtray or a similar suitable receptacle.
- No alcohol may be consumed in the hunting area. Please also refrain from providing Game Guards with alcohol.
- The Game Guard has the right to refuse to accompany any hunter whom he considers to be under the influence of alcohol or prohibited substances.
- The Game Guard may terminate the hunt, at any time, should hunters not adhere to the hunt rules, the reserve rules or for serious misconduct. Any fees paid will also be forfeited.
- No hunting shall take place within the period half and hour before sunset, and half and hour after sunrise.
- You are responsible for obtaining any additional documentation, if required, before any venison is transported from the Reserve to your final destination.
